The fact that political adult education can function also via the Internet with great success have been proving for years The Virtual Academy and The International E-Academy for Leadership. The main idea behind it is the so-called „Blended Learning “, a symbiosis from real meeting and learning over a special learning platform via the Internet.

During the last year the project office in Belgrade in coordination with the regional office and the working units from the central office decided to develop a project-specific blended learning platform. The pilot project is called e-sem (www.e-sem.fnst.org) and is based on the e-learning platform used by the Foundation for Freedom. In the future e-sem will supplement gradually the political educational activities of the project West Balkans by Internet-supported educational measures.

Begin of the Workshop on 3 April with Sascha Tamm
The pilot meeting took place between 3 and 26 April 2008. The blended learning workshop Introduction in the European Union integration was created and organized in close co-operation with the political committee for EU integration (PAEU) of our partner in Serbia, the LDP. In the seminar took part 25 young multiplicators from the party from different regions in Serbia. The workshop provided the participants with knowledge about the EU history, the institutional systems and decision-making processes, the supranational juridical system and the anti-monopoly politics of the European Union. The participants learned to represent liberals pro-European positions in the public in a clear and convincing manner.

The pilot workshop consisted of three modules. Each module covered a one-day live meeting in Belgrade and one-week on-line phase. Each module treated different, but interconnected topics. Central element of the seminar was the on-line forum on e-sem. Each topic had its own forum, where the workshop leader, tutors and participants the topic were able to discuss further.

The success of the pilot workshop about the EU integration means that it should be followed by another workshop. In July a follow up in modified form will take place for another group of participants.
