Serbian Liberal Democrates join the LI
55. LI-Kongress in Belfast
More than two years and a half after its foundation and more than a year after merging with the Civic Alliance of Serbia (CAS), which was then a full member of the LI (Liberal International), the youngest and most successful liberal party in Serbia (LDP) became a member with observer status of the LI at its 55. Congress in Belfast.
Тhe Liberal Democrates were represented аt the Congress by Mr. Vladimir Pavicevic, member of the party’s executive committee, and chairman of the party’s committee for European integration. In his public speech Mr. Pavicevic presented the prehistory of the party’s success in the recent elections. In the speech he pointed out the willingness of the party to become a valuable and respectable member of the liberal family. Mr. Pavicevic answered delegates’ questions not only about his party, but also on Serbia’s political future.
Only 4 days before the opening of the Congress LDP managed to enter the Serbian Parliament for the second time. After a pretty tough election campaign the LDP managed to increase the member of its MPs from 11 to 13. At the contemporaneously held regional and local elections more than 120 candidates of the party managed to enter regional, state, and resp. community parliaments. Before that time the party had only 30 mandates. In the future, the throng of local and regional mandatories will affect positively above all the Network of the liberal mandatories, founded 2006 by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, LiberNet.
