How can the democratic consolidation of the new Eastern EU member be supported effectively? Should the European Union and NATO accept soon new members in order to stabilize the new neighbour regions? These and other important strategic questions for the Foundation activity in Central, Southeastern, Eastern Europe and Southern Caucasus (MOSOE) discussed co-workers of the FNF with liberal MP´s from the German Parliament and experts of the Federal Government.

Foundation representatives, politicians and government experts shared the opinion that the NATO enlargement depends mainly on the democratic development and the social stability as well as the ability for military alliance of the countries interested in a membership. The NATO entry must be also clearly supported by a majority of the population. With a view to a future EU enlargement more attention is to be paid to the democratic consolidation of the importnant national institutions and constitutional bodies. This is also of importnance for the party systems.

Onother important topic of interest was the improvement of the effect control of the Foundation work in the region as well as the establishment of partner structure, which corresponds to the current development. The next conference on the region MSOE will take place in September in Tbilissi, Georgia.
